Travel advice anyone?

+
=?

We are going on an airplane soon, and I was wondering if I could solicit advice from any of you about traveling with a baby. Any methods, drugs, or a combination of the two work for any of you?

Nursing (or have him drink a bottle) during takeoff and landing (keeps his ears from popping). Make sure everybody sees him while he's smiling because they'll think he's so cute, and then later when he cries, they'll cut him some slack. Where are you going and how long is the plane ride? And when are you coming to see us?

Melissa-
This Friday we are going to see Charity's Sister and Brother in Law (who has cancer). I will have to talk to Charity to see when we could come out to your neck of the woods.

I haven't tried it, but I'm told that Dramamine works wonders, both in the motion sickness prevention, and in the sleep-induction "side effect."

With Aiden, I use sudafed, since he has a paradoxical effect and it knocks him out instead of being its usual stimulant self.. it helps a lot to have a sleepy child instead of a bored one.

I asked the pharmacist and she said that James is too young for anything besides baby Tylenol.

Are you buying a seat for him? (Based on your mall post, my guess is you are not.) In that case, you will want to book the window and aisle seats and pray that no one gets booked into the middle. Obviously, you can trade the aisle or window for the middle seat if someone is assigned to the middle. Having a seat for baby is critical. In part so you can use the car seat, which baby is usually used to sleeping well in. If the baby cries, take him for a walk around the plane, if for no other reason, to give those around you a break from the crying.

The decent is the hardest part on baby's ears. Definitely make sure he's thirsty for that part (don't feed him just before decent). Have a bottle of something very tasty handy.

Brace yourself. You may get some angry stares. Ignore them, unless you're not doing all that can reasonably be done to distract baby from crying.

Good luck!
